About the Level 4 FREC Course

The Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF) qualification is ideal for those who want to provide Pre-Hospital Care to patients requiring emergency treatment, and is the next step for those who have completed the Level 3 FREC (First Response Emergency Care) Course (QCF) or equivalent, this nationally recognised and regulatedqualification is the ideal foundation for those individuals looking to progress their career in the emergency services, ambulance services, event medical sector or other high risk workplaces where they are required to deliver pre-hospital emergency care.

 

The qualification is accredited by Qualsafe Awards (the UK’s largest Awarding Organisation for first aid) and is clinically endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh – Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC).

The Level 4 Certificate also meets the FPHC criteria at descriptor level ‘E’ on the Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) Skills Framework.

 

Course Syllabus

Topics covered in the FREC level 4 include:

·         Initial patient assessment

·         Physiological measures

·         Anatomy and physiology

·         Heart disease

·         Electrocardiogram application and monitoring

·         Managing a patient’s airway – supraglottic airways

·         Medical gases – including dosages and administration

·         Thoracic trauma

·         Mechanism of injury and kinetics

·         Triage

·         Full body and limb immobilisation

·         Management of suspected or actual cases of sexual assault

·         Psychosocial development in children

·         Emergency care for sick and injured children

·         Dealing with a patient displaying signs of mental health problems

·         Assisting with advanced airway management, vascular access and infusion

 
 
 
 
 

Certification

On successful completion of assessments and 3 x workbooks learners will be awarded a

Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (CQF) valid for 3 years.

Pre-Course Requisites

Learners must be 18 years old and should have completed a Level 3 FREC course or an equivalent recognised qualification.
 

Assessment and Requalification:

Learners will be continually assessed throughout the Level 4 FREC® course and will be required to complete 3 workbooks post course. Successful candidates will receive a QA

 

Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF). This is valid for a period of 3 years and can be renewed by attending a shorter 3-Day Requalification Course
